How to make a Zebra Striped Crochet Hat

I wanted to try a new pattern I found so I made this zebra striped hat. 

First I measured the length of my head from my forehead up to the top of my head.  Then I made a chain that long. The hat turn out a little bit to small so add a few chain. 

Crochet in the back loops only. 

A Half Double Crochet (HDC) is done like a double crochet but you pull trough all of it at once instead of dived it up in two steps.

Row 1: hdc in 2nd ch from hook and keep going. End row with chain. Turn.

Row 2: As row 1. 

Row3: Switch color and repeat.

When I was almost done I realized the width had changed, it was smaller. Ops. I most have mist the last chain at the end. Redo. 

When the hat is wide enough decide which side is going to be out. Then you can stitch it or crochet it together. I took one loop of each side and crochet them together.

Then I weaved around the top of the hat and pull tightly. I had to fix a few spots that didn't look so good but the hat end up pretty good. 

How to crochet an easy flower

You start with a loop. Then do a chain. How long chain you do depends on how big flower you want. I did 8 stitches. Then do the next stitch around your loop not in the stitch. Then keep doing petals. 8 stitch, one around the loop and 8 new stitch. Do has many petals you like.

Since you do the stitch round and not in the chain stitches you can move the petals and make room for many or you can spread them out on the loop and do few petals it's all up to you.

You can flat the petals out or you can let them point in all directions.

Now you take the two threads that are hanging from your flower and sew it on your hat. If you want to be able to take the flower of easily you just tie it on.

If you have a plain hat you can put some flowers on it. It will make a big different.

And the flowers are very easy to make. I will show how to make them later.

Finish up the Parakeet Hat

Here they are, all done. To change their look; change size on the eyes and beak or put the eyes further apart. 

You can also put on braids to be sure to keep your ears warm.

How to make a parakeet hat.

When you are going to make a parakeet hat you should use two color. 

After you finished crocheting the hat it is time for cutting out all parts in felt. You need;

2 white circles and 2 black circles for the eyes

1 brownish orange triangle for the beak

1 eight-shaped part for the top of the beak and 

2 small ovals for the holes on the beak.

Now lay them out on the hat so you know where you want them. Pin them in right spot and sew them on with a thin tread in matching color. 

Tips, Remember the eyes are going to move apart more when you put on the hat.

How to crochet Totoro ears

Here are Totoro’s ears to mine next Totoro hat, a smaller one.

I start with a chain. Crochet one lap without increasing, next round I crochet 2 or 3 crochet in each stich to make it flat.

On this ears I did 2 in each so it is not so flat, on the big Totoro hat I did 3 in each. 3 crochet in each stich makes it totally flat but also very big. I wanted a smaller ear so I decided to go on a rounder shape. 

The next round no increasing to make it turn upwards, and after that decrease every 5th stich to make a cone form. At the end I decrease every 3rd stich.

 

Här är örona till min nästa Totoromössa, en mindre mössa. Jag började med att virka en kedja. Första varvet ökade jag inget, nästa varv virkar jag 2 eller 3 maskor i varje maska, för att få en plattare form. På de första örona jag gjorde ökade jag 3 maskor i varje maska vilket gjorde den helt platt men också väldigt stor. Därför bestämnde jag mig för en rundare form var ok så att örat inte skulle bli så stort. Tredje varvet ökar jag inget igen för att få örat att vika av uppåt. Föjande varv minskar jag var 5:te maska, de sista varven vart 3:dje maska.

How to make a ladybug hat continues

Next step is to decide how many spots your ladybug should have and how big. I like to add a "head" in the front of the hat.  I cut out my spots and head in felt. Sew on the spots on one side and mirror the spots on the other side.

Nästa steg är att bestämma hur många och hur stora prickarna ska vara. Jag gillar att använda filt till detaljerna. Ifall man virkar detaljerna blir de så tjocka. Jag brukar sätta på ett litet huvud fram på kroppen.

 

I like my ladybug hat to be parted by a black line. Crochet a chain that is long enough to go from one side to another. Fold the hat so you can find the middle of the hat and sew on the chain.



Virka sedan en svart kedja tillräckligt lång för att räcka från ena sidan till den andra. Vik mössan så att du kan hitta mitten och sy på kedjan.

 

  After about 3-4 inch put the hat on a doll to make sure the hat can be stretch out without any problems from the black chain line across the hat. Keep sewing and keep checking.

När du sytt på några centimeter sätt mössan på en docka så att den sträcks ut kontrollera att kedjan inte ställer till med problem.

How to make a ladybug hat

Making a ladybug hat is pretty simple. First crochet a red hat. I like to add a black edge.

Next step is to make the antennae and decide how they should look. Make a chain long enough for one antennae. Crochet it hard to make it look nice and even. Pull one of the ends through a hole where you want it and place it the way you like it on the hat. Pull the other end of the chain through the hat so the start and the end of the chain is on the revers side of the hat. Use regular sewing thread to attach the antennae to the hat. Make sure the ends of the chain is secured at the inside and if the chain turned out to be too long cut of the part you do not need after you made sure it is fastened nicely.

 

Nästa steg är att göra antennerna och bestämma hur de ska se ut. Virka en kedja lång nog för en antenn. När du virkar kedjan var noga med att virka den lika hårt hela tiden så den blir jämn och fin. Stoppa in ena änden av kedjan fram på mössan, lägg ut kedjan så som du vill att antennen ska vara formad och stoppa sedan den andra änden genom ett hål så att båda ändarna av kedjan är på avigsidan. Använd sytråd och sy fast antennen. Sy fast kedjans ändar på avigsidan. Ifall kedjan blivit för lång kan man klippa av den efter man sytt fast den noga. Tänk på att den kan repa upp sig ifall man klipper av den så försök att undvika detta.

Turquoise crochet flower

Here is my flower made with my own pattern. It is very easy to make this flower.

Den är väldigt enkel att göra.

 

First crochet a chain. The longer chain the bigger flower. I think between 50 and 70 is good. Turn.

 

Skip first chain and do 2 single crochet in next chain. 2 single crochet in the next one, 1 double crochet. *Do 2 double crochet in one chain, repeat four times, 1 double crochet in one chain, repeat*.

When only three is left, 1 double crochet, 2 double crochet and in the last 1 single crochet. Turn.

 

 1 single crochet, 2 double crochet, 1 double crochet, 2 double crochet, 1 double crochet, 1 single crochet. *1 single crochet,1 double crochet, 2 double crochet, 2 double crochet, 1 double crochet, 1 single crochet, repeat * 1 single crochet.

 

Time to sew it together to make a flower.

 

Virka en kedja. Ju längre kedja ju större blomma. Jag tycker mellan 50 och 75 maskor är lagom. Det beror på garnets tjocklek också.

 

Första varvet. Hoppa över första maskan och virka 2 enkelstolpar i nästa maska. 2 enkelstoplar, 1 dubbelstolpe.*2 dubbelstoplar upprepa 4 gånger, 1 dubblestolpe, repetera*

När bara tre maskor är kvar,1 enkelstolpe, 2 dubbelstolpar och i sista maskan en enkelstolpe.

 

Andra varvet. 1 enkelstolpe, 2 dubbelstolpar, 1 dubblestolpe, 2 dubbelstolpar, 1 dubbelstolpe, 1 enkelstolpe. * 1 enkelstolpe, 1 dubbelstolpe, 2 dubblestolpar, 2 dubblestolpar, 1 dubblestolpe, 1 enkelstolpe, upprepa * 1 enkelstolpe.

This how I did the hat; Mind that it is not a pattern, I adjust my crocheting as I work.

 

After crocheting 1 double crochet in every stitch I reduced the amount of stitch. Looking at how the hat turned out, I should probably have reduced the amount right after I started the 1 double crochet in each. When I thought the hat had the right hight I started crocheting 2 double crochet in each stitch again to make the brim. The problem with the brim is that  if you do too many of the 2 double crochet in each stitch the brim will become wavy and if you do too few it will turn inwards. It is a try and error thing. My brim got a little wavy.

Efter jag började med 1 dubbelmaska i varje maska minskade jag antalet maskor. När man tittar på hur hatten blev antar jag att jag gjorde minskningen för sent. Jag skulle antagligen gjort den direkt då jag började med 1 dubbelmaska i varje maska. När jag tyckte att hatten hade rätt höjd ökade jag maskantal igen för att göra brettet. Ju fler fler maskor man ökar dessto vågigare blir brettet men med för få maskor kommer brettet att vika innåt.

Abraham Lincoln hat - Beginning

My daughter's Social Study teacher asked if I could crochet an Abraham Lincoln hat for him. The beginning is easy. Just a circle. To make the circle flat I did 2 double crochet in about every stitch until I thought it was big enough then I did only 1 double crochet in every stitch.

 

Min dotters samhällskunskaps lärare frågade mig om jag kunde virka honom en Abraham Lincoln hatt. Jag tänkte att det kunde väl inte vara så svårt. Först virkade jag en cirkel. För att göra cirkeln platt virkade jag två dubbelmaskor i nästan varje maska. När jag tyckte cirkeln var tillräckligt stor gick jag över till att virka 1 dubbelmaska i varje maska.

How to Crochet - Crochet Needles

To crochet is easy and fast to learn. There are a few pointers to learn for best results. The first thing is to choose the right needle for the task.

If you look at the paper strip around the yarn it will tell you a size that is good to use for just that yarn but it is not always that easy.

What size you should choose is also depending on what kind of result you want.

Do you want something that is soft and loose? Chose a bigger needle.
Do you want a stiffer result chose a smaller needle.

For exemple, if you crochet a hat you want it to be soft but if you doing some details that are going to stick out you want it to be stiff. Same yarn but different needle.To crochet with a bigger needle gives faster result.

Att virka är enkelt och går snabbt att lära sig. Det första man ska göra efter man valt garn är att välja virknål. Titta på pappret runt garnet för att få en hint på storleken på virknålen.

Om du väljer en större storlek på virknålen kommer det du virkar få en mjukare och lösare form och om du väljer en mindre storlek kommer stycket bli hårdare och stelare. Det gäller att välja virknål så du får rätt resultat. Till exempel, om du ska virka en mössa vill du att den ska vara mjuk, välj en större virknål, om du ska virka detaljer till mössa som ska sticka ut välj en mindre virknål så de blir hårdare. Samma garn olika resultat. Att virka med en större virknål ger också snabbare resultat.
